What is wonderful about starting a new year is making lists of things you can look forward to in the next 365 days – or am I the only one who does these things? Nonetheless, I listed 8 albums that I really look forward to listening to in 2016.

// AURORA – “All My Demons Are Greeting Me As A Friend”

Release date: March 11, 2016

I first heard AURORA at Pinkpop Festival 2015, and it was one of the biggest and most pleasant surprises of the weekend. Her debut EP, “Running With The Wolves” became immensely popular almost right away, with its sharp electronic beats, angelic voice and fairy-tale feel. In 2016, the young Norwegian artist will finally release her debut album.

// The Last Shadow Puppets – TBA

the last shadow puppets

Release date: TBA

There’s a lot of mystery surrounding this album, but a lot of excitement too: Miles Kane and Arctic Monkeys front-man Alex Turner are getting back together for a new album in 2016. The supergroup first teamed up in 2008, when they released their hugely successful “The Age Of The Understatement”, a collection of catchy, melancholic, 60s-inspired songs. One can only hope their second album, due for release in the Spring, will follow in their debut album’s footsteps.

// Wolfmother – “Victorious”

wolfmother victorious

Release date: February 19, 2016

Finally! A new Wolfmother album! The band’s debut album, “Wolfmother”, celebrated its 10 year anniversary last year, and in 2016, they plan on releasing their long-awaited third studio album, titled “Victorious”. Three songs have already been released and you can listen to them on Spotify – and they promise victory for the Australian band.

// Daughter – “Not To Disappear”

Release date: January 15, 2016

In 2013, Daughter released their debut album, titled “If You Leave”. The British group create moody, magical songs that dance the unlikely line between folk and electronic music. An usual combination, but one that worked very, very well on their debut album. The question remains, will it also work on their second LP, titled “Not To Disappear”? Nonetheless, I’m very much looking forward to Daughter’s new material.

// M83 – TBA

Release date: TBA

It was 2011 when French electro group M83 released their 22-track success album, “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming”. The album was (and still is) a hit, with unforgettable singles such as “Midnight City” and “Wait”. Five (!) years later, M83 will finally release their highly anticipated next album. There’s still a lot of hush-hush surrounding the LP, but consider me excited.

Release date: TBA

HAIM became one of the hits of 2013, with their smashing debut album “Days Are Gone”. The three sisters were immensely popular with the listeners, the critics and Taylor Swift. The past couple of years, they have been collaborating with Calvin Harris and they featured on soundtracks of “Paper Towns”, “The Divergent Series: Insurgent” and “The Hunger Games – Mockingjay”. I’m very curious to hear their new work…

// SIA – “This Is Acting”

sia this is acting

Release date: January 29, 2016

This isn’t an album that I’m really waiting for, or that I’m super excited about. However, Sia’s seventh studio album is one that I’m very, very curious about. What is very interesting about “This Is Acting”, is the fact that the songs featured on this LP were tracks that were rejected by other artists, such as Katy Perry, Adele and Rihanna. What I’m so curious about is what these rejected songs will sound like.

// Royal Blood – TBA

royal blood

Release date: TBA

From all 8 albums, this one is probably the album I’m most excited about. British duo Royal Blood smashed the rock industry with their self-titled debut album back in 2014, and it became my favorite album of that year. In 2015, I saw them performing at Paradiso, Amsterdam and at Best Kept Secret Festival, which both were amazing performances. Needless to say perhaps, I’m super excited to hear their second album.
